Sacred to the Memory of
WILLIAM CLIFTON
late of Gatherleigh in the parish of Lifton
who after a long painful illness
which he bore with Christian patience
yielded up his spirit into the hands
of his maker the 13th day of April 1815
in the 66th year of his age
Weep not my wife and children dear
I am not loft but gone before
prepare for death for die you muft
and come and sleep with me in dust
until that Chrift doth us forth call
and will awake and s???
haste now to God make no delay
for no-one knows his dying day.
Stay Reader, stay, remove not from this stone
before though haft considered well thy doom!
Prepare for death improve your precious time
the grave that next is open may be thine.
How wisely then should we ourselves behave
how well prepared before we meet the grave!!
