On Tuesday 6th October, a rather damp and overcast day, the judges, representing Calor's Western Region of their Village of the Year Competition, visited Week St. Mary as winners of the recent Cornish round of the competition.
After a brief greeting and introduction from Tricia Kabler and Linda Cobbledick the assembled guests and locals watched a visual show in the chapel before visiting the Parish Hall and Playing Field.
The Parish Hall was in full use by the Coffee Pot Club which impressed the judges by the variety of tasks being undertaken by babies and very young children, coinciding with a play session provided by Bude Children's Centre. Their visit also allowed them to ask questions regarding the recent refurbishment of the Parish Hall.
Upon their return to the Methodist School Room the judges inspected each stand in and chatted to those representing the relevent club or group.
Before leaving for Hemyock, the Devon county winner, the judges said that we had presented a strong show of unity and that we should be very proud of our entry, wishing us luck in the final selection.
Well, we did all we could and will just have to wait for the final announcement!
